Recreational Sports is part of a healthy campus initiative that works to provide a culture of well-being on the Oregon State University campus. Recreational Sports prides itself in providing you with the facilities, programs, and services that allow you to be active, healthy, and happy.

Sand volleyball at Dixon Recreation Center

Dixon Recreation Center is the main student and staff facility for self-directed, open participation in activities such as basketball, racquetball, badminton, volleyball, squash, table tennis, weight training, swimming, and cardio fitness. Daily passes can be purchased by conference participants and other guests. Complete information is available at Dixon Recreation Center; 541-737-3748.

Stevens Natatorium (Swimming Pool in Dixon Recreation Center): Contains an 8-lane, 25-yard lap pool, a deep-water pool, and a spa with adjoining sun deck. Full-service locker rooms, an equipment issue area, and a lounge are also available. Stevens Natatorium accommodates recreational swimming as well as non-credit classes such as water fitness and kayaking.

Student Legacy Park (SLP) is located across the street to the west of Dixon Recreation Center. SLP has lit turf sport fields, a 1/3 mile track, 10 court tennis complex, outdoor basketball court, and a pavilion. Tennis court reservations are available and encouraged for students and Recreational Sports Members; 541-737-2202.

McAlexander Fieldhouse has two multipurpose courts, a turf field, a climbing wall and a classroom. Access is limited to OSU students and Recreational Sports members. Group rentals are available; 541-737-6783.

Adventure Leadership Institute

Adventure Leadership Institute includes a variety of facilities, classes, programs, and services that support educational and leadership experiences outside the classroom. Special 'for-credit' classes are offered to provide the skills needed to lead trips or facilitate groups. Professional certificates can be obtained in these areas. Call 541-737-4254 to set-up an appointment with an advisor.  

The Adventure Leadership Institute houses equipment rental services, including whitewater rafts, canoes, camping equipment and more. There is a bike workshop, a lounge, a resource center that includes a library, outdoor periodicals, map file, and catalogs. Experienced staff members are available to help plan outings; 541-737-4254.

Challenge (Ropes) Course, just west of campus, consists of high and low ropes plus field space. Groups focus on developing skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, and group dynamics. Trained facilitators work with groups to provide a variety of initiatives designed to learn by doing. Half- or full-day programs are available; 541-737-2710.

Indoor Climbing Centers are located inside Dixon Recreation Center and the other is inside McAlexander Fieldhouse. The climbing walls provide space for climbers of all abilities. New climber orientation and belay skills classes are offered daily.

Fitness & Wellness

Personal Training and Group Fitness Classes are available to help you create a fitness plan that is right for you and to help you get the most out of your workout. Partner and group training options are also available.

Fit Pass Classes are non-credit instructional classes in areas like Indoor Cycling, Zumba, Mind-Body, Strength Conditioning, Les Mills BODYPUMP and Beaver Bootcamp. The current schedule of classes can be found on the Recreational Sports website.

Wellness Coaching is available to help students navigate campus resources and otherwise act as their own advocates for life balance and well-being.  

Sports Programs

Intramural Sports offer competitive play through leagues and tournaments. The emphasis is on fun and team, with a variety of sports options.


Safety Training teaches individuals or groups to care for injuries and emergencies until medical help arrives. Classes are offered on First Aid, CPR, AED and Lifeguard Training. Earn a safety certification through the American Heart Association.
