  The coast

Make a splash at the Oregon coast

Ready to take full advantage of summer in Oregon? We've got the perfect option for you: Study at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport this summer and earn OSU credit while taking in the beauty and adventure at the coast.

Featured courses:

Aquaculture Lab (FW 598): Master the art of lab culture techniques in this course where you'll gain practical experience handling organisms, including fish, shellfish and algae.

Special Topics in Oceanography (OC 599): Here's your chance to learn even more about the ocean and dive into current topics in oceanography that are not covered in depth in other courses.

Marine and Estuarine Invertebrate Zoology (Z 561): Through interactive lab work and field trips, you will conduct a comparative survey of eight major invertebrate phyla and many lesser-known phyla, focusing on areas of invertebrate identification, natural history and comparative anatomy.

  Forest to ocean

Learn to share your passion for the outdoors with others

Take your passion of exploring forests and marine environments to the next level in F2O - Forest to Ocean, where you'll learn to effectively teach others about science, math, social science and the language arts. Two courses serve as foundations for the F2O program:

Communicating Ocean Sciences to Informal Audiences (SED 535)
Sometimes, explaining your scientific findings to non-scientists is a challenge. This class is your solution. Learn to turn your knowledge into interesting information for the general public.

Forest as Classroom (FES 530)
Do you envision yourself as a classroom teacher, naturalist, interpreter or scientist? Here's the class you've been looking for. Through the examination of forest ecology and broader natural resource management issues, you'll not only learn about natural resources, but also discover methods of teaching others.

  Health equity

Advancing Rural & Community Health Equity

This new summer program brings together students, professionals and community members to explore opportunities and challenges for advancing rural and community health equity in the context of poverty.

You will complete two courses, HDFS 508 and HDFS 547, where you'll gain hands-on experience through course activities, guest speakers, a field trip and a community-based project.

  Photo contest

Capture your summer, win prizes with the #myOSUsummer photo contest

Back by popular demand, we're excited to announce the 2017 #myOSUsummer photo contest — your chance to show off your photography skills, capture your summer and win some pretty cool prizes.

Summer at Oregon State is a beautiful thing, and we can't wait to see what you're up to this summer!

Front row seat to the solar eclipse and festival activities

In case you haven't heard, this summer is going to be extra special at Oregon State. Why? Because OSU is at the center of a natural phenomenon — a total solar eclipse.

On Monday, Aug. 21, the sky will go dark for about two minutes at 10:17 a.m., and OSU will be hosting various festivities to celebrate the event. Join us for the two-day festival at the end of Sessions 1, 3 and 4 to learn all about the eclipse and have a great time.

If that isn't enough, Summer Session students will gain access to exclusive perks, including free glasses to properly view the eclipse and free concert entry to Music on the Quad Sunday, Aug. 20. Don't miss this chance to take part in this unique summer experience.

  Bard in the Quad

Comedy, romance take the stage at this year's Bard in the Quad

Have some laughs, support your classmates and enjoy a night out at this year's Bard in the Quad theater performance Aug. 3-6 and Aug. 10-13 at the MU quad. This year's Shakespeare play is "Two Gentlemen of Verona" — a romantic comedy about two best friends and their misadventures in wooing the women they love.

Set against the backdrop of the American Wild West, Bard in the Quad 2017 promises to be a "rootin-tootin-shootin-boot-scootin" good time with music, comedy, cross-dressing, mistaken identity and a scene-stealing dog. (Yes, you read that correctly. A scene-stealing dog!)

OSU Summer Session is a proud supporter of Bard in the Quad.
