Seabirds, ocean breeze and more

Spend this summer taking in the ocean breeze while studying at OSU's Hatfield Marine Science Center. Gain hands-on lab and field experience while earning OSU credits in an ideal learning environment.

Featured course: FW 331 - Ecology of Marine and Estuarine Birds

Not all birds are created equal. Learn how marine and estuarine birds are adapted for life at sea, making them highly diverse and differing in many ways from more familiar terrestrial species. Participate in field trips, sampling and see firsthand how some seabirds have life histories similar to marine mammals, including their unique diving capabilities.

Check out the HMSC financial aid webpage for details on how you can live at the HMSC at no cost or a reduced rate this summer. Deadline to apply is May 1.

  China

Study Chinese art abroad

Spend two fun-filled weeks in China this summer exploring the scenic Jiangnan region, where you'll be introduced to major forms of Chinese art and architecture dating back to the eleventh century.

Learn how to identify monuments and works of Chinese art, understand how art is made and interpret art in specific cultural, historical, political and social contexts. Trip highlights include visits to the West Lake, the Lingyin Buddhist Temple, scholar's gardens and world-class museums. Apply by April 15.

Conduct research, learn about energy poverty in Guatemala

Learn about energy poverty and work alongside OSU faculty conducting research abroad in Guatemala this summer. Find options for improving health, livelihoods, the environment and quality of life of Guatemalans through the use of renewable energy technology, such as biomass cookstoves.

Visit rural communities and homes to measure energy consumption, talk with residents about their needs, evaluate technological solutions and learn about international development by visiting the U.S. Embassy and USAID in Guatemala City. The deadline to apply is April 15.
