Fiji, Short Program: Humans & The Environment

The American Universities International Program (AUIP) Short Program in Fiji (8 days) uses the theme of sustainable development to explore the relationship between people and their natural environment. The areas studied are the complex relationships between Fijian cultural practices, conservation of the natural environment, and eco-tourism. This program spends 3 days at the University of the South Pacific in the capital city of Suva, followed by a 5-day field study. This program is designed as an optional extension for the short programs in Australia and New Zealand, but all students are eligible to apply. Learn more »

Australia, Short Program: Humans & The Environment

The American Universities International Program (AUIP) Short Program (3.5 weeks) in Australia is based in the state of Queensland, which is home to rainforests, beaches, the Outback, and the marine diversity of the Great Barrier Reef. The programs are based either in Brisbane or in Cairns, with classes being held on the campuses of the University of Queensland and/or James Cook Universtiy. The program includes a 2-week study tour that includes kayaking, snorkeling, and/or diving on the Great Barrier Reef, hiking in rainforests, and experiencing Aboriginal culture in the Outback. Antarctica, Short Program: The Fragile Continent

The American Universities International Program (AUIP) Short Program in Antarctica explores contemporary issues in Antarctica and the adjacent sub-Antarctic region, including Tierra del Fuego and the Southern Ocean. Students attend weekly lectures in the fall available via webcast, and then participate in a two-week field study in Antarctica and Tierra del Fuego. Students spend 10 days aboard an expedition cruise ship to the Antarctic Peninsula and also spend 4 days in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Learn more »
