Geology Summer Field Programs
June 8-July 17, 2009
GEO 495/595 Advanced Field Geology (6)
In its 75th year, the nationally respected (6-week) OSU Geology Summer Field Program introduces the professionally oriented geology student to field-mapping techniques. It is most useful for those who have completed at least three years of geology course work, including physical and historical geology, mineralogy, lithology, structural geology, stratigraphy, and a field-methods preparation course.
The Summer Field Program stresses geologic mapping, utilization of aerial photographic stereoscopic pairs and topographic maps, preparation of geologic cross-sections, detailed section description and measurement, regional field trips and preparation of reports. The major portion of the instructional program is held at the Geology Summer Field Station, owned by OSU. It is located on the north flank of the Ochoco Mountains, 50 miles northeast of the Bend-Redmond area.
Enrollment is limited. Application is required by April 1, 2009. Applications received prior to March 1 will be considered for partial merit scholarships, as available. A program fee, covering food, transportation, lodging, and supplies is required. Program content, fee schedule, and application materials are available from Dr. Dilles, Director, Geology Summer Field Program.
