“Bard in the Quad” Lecture Series
Visualizing Shakespeare: The Bard on Film and by Design!
OSU Theatre and the Dept. of Speech Communication announce the second annual “Bard in the Quad” lecture series. The series consists of six 1 hour lecture sessions related to the 2008 production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream and is 'free' to the public. The lecture series will focus on cinematic adaptations of Shakespeare’s work along with discussions about Shakespeare on film and in visual art and issues related to costume and set design for Shakespearean productions. Topics will include Woody Allen’s “A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy,” portrayals of Prohibition in popular cinema and silent films, the influence of Shakespeare on Orson Welles as a director, and costume and set design challenges for outdoor productions of Shakespeare.
